In a viral Facebook post from a few days back, student Mitch Roldan had asked Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña to have the Public Library open 24/7. He explained that students are looking for a place to study and do schoolwork, and expressed his frustration at having to order food from restaurants to stay there.
In a prompt reply, Mayor Osmeña had asked for one day to do something about the matter, and today came out with a statement on his own Facebook page.
According to the mayor, the Rizal Public Library is currently being updated for 24-hour use. But because of necessary upgrades, it will only be open until midnight starting Friday.
“The air conditioners are being upgraded, additional staff and guards being hired, CCTV installed, and WiFi routers are on their way,” says the official post on the Mayor’s page. “I did not know how important this was to students until you brought it up. You made it happen. Thank you.”
