Cebu has many options available for everyone’s preferences. The urbanization of the city offers many spots to shop, dine, and chill, while its geography gives many choices for the more adventurous souls. Craving a swim at the beach? Cebu has plenty. Want to chase waterfalls? Take a trip down South. Looking to climb some mountains? Not to worry, Cebu has that too.
For the best mountain trails to trek, we’ve got you covered with this list:
Osmeña Peak, Dalaguete
Probably the most popular in Cebu, Osmeña Peak stands at 1,013 meters. Despite its height, it’s one of the easiest to climb. The hike consists of going through lush vegetable farms for about an hour until you get to the top, where you can see one of the most stunning views on the island.
Mt. Manunggal, Balamban
This mountain holds a bit of history behind it. Mt. Manunggal is the site where the presidential plane crashed in 1957, taking the lives of President Ramon Magsaysay and twenty-four others. The trail can be achieved in between two to seven hours, depending on your pace and experience.
Mt. Kapayas, Catmon
Located up north, Mt. Kapayas is a relatively low mountain compared to those mentioned in this list, but it still holds the adventurous charm to attract the bold souls. It takes two hours to get to the jump-off point by habal-habal, or a motorcycle for hire. From there, it’s a steep and rocky hike to get to the summit.
Cebu Highlands Trail
If you’re looking to go to the path less traveled, then the Cebu Highlands Trail is your best bet. This is the brainchild of Jing Lavilles de Egurolla, who wanted to provide a scenic trail of Cebu. It’s the first long-distance hiking trail on the island, and is patterned after those in the US, Canada and Europe. With a length of 408.29 kilometers and an elevation gain of 954 meters, the CHT snakes lengthwise along the entire Cebu island. Find out more about the trail here.
